PRF injections are a natural alternative to hyaluronic filler injections for facial rejuvenation. PRF uses your body’s own growth factors to stimulate your body’s production of collagen to smooth out skin, restore volume, and improve color. PRF is especially helpful in reducing aging effects such as sagging and dark circles under the eyes, increasing volume in the lip, decreasing smokers’ lines around the mouth, and softening nasolabial folds.
Platelet Rich Fibrin. Similar to PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma), PRF is full of growth factors and signaling molecules that stimulate the growth of healthy cells. The difference is that it contains Fibrin, a scaffolding protein that creates structure for new tissue to be built upon. This is especially helpful for areas that suffer from volume loss such as under the eyes and lips.
Hyaluronic filler injections provide an immediate result by plumping areas with deposits of hyaluronic acid. While this is a quick way to restore volume, traditional filler is not without some risks: deposits can migrate over time providing an undesirable look, can be overdone leaving an “overfilled” look, may have asymmetry, or may result in more serious effects such as allergic reaction or vascular occlusion leading to tissue death.
PRF is a slower process that over several months rebuilds collagen and volume, restores diminished fat pads (especially under the eye), increases new healthy blood vessels, and smooths out skin tone and texture. Because it is utilizing the body’s own growth factors and proteins to rebuild the targeted areas, there is no risk of an allergic reaction, vascular occlusion, or asymmetrical/overfilled look.
PRF is injected into areas where rejuvenation is desired in a series of 3 treatments spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart.
An initial volume enhancement will typically last one to three weeks and then dissipate.
The long-term effects such as collagen production, volume restoration, skin tightening, and enhanced skin tone and quality may take 1 to 3 months to be noticed, and last 12 to 18 months. Improvement of scars is long-lasting.
Deep lines and advanced wrinkling cannot be reversed.
Once yearly maintenance injections are recommended after the initial series has been completed.
